MCV: “Protecting our outdoor way of life transcends partisan divides”

Conservation group applauds Senators Daines and Sheehy for supporting amendment to protect federal public lands

(BOZEMAN, Mont.) — The Montana Conservation Voters Education Fund released the following statement from Executive Director Whitney Tawney in response to the U.S. Senate’s vote rejecting the Hickenlooper-Heinrich amendment, which aimed to prevent the sale of public lands as part of the federal budget:

“Montanans know our public lands are not for sale, and it’s deeply disappointing that the Senate failed to pass this critical amendment that would have safeguarded our shared lands from being sold off to cover tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

We thank Senators Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy for voting in support of this commonsense measure. Despite pressure from their party, they stood up for Montana’s public lands, demonstrating that protecting our outdoor way of life transcends partisan divides.

Although the amendment failed, Montanans are watching and we will continue to fight tirelessly to ensure our public lands remain in public hands in perpetuity.”
