MCV Applauds Hearing for Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act

Conservation group calls out Senator Daines’ lack of support for the Montana bill

(BOZEMAN, Mont.) – The Montana Conservation Voters Education Fund released the following statement from Executive Director Whitney Tawney in response to the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources’ hearing on Senator Jon Tester’s Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act:

“We’re pleased to see the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act finally get a hearing – Senator Jon Tester’s well-crafted bill is a no-brainer. The Montana-made legislation should be an obvious yes for Committee Member Senator Daines, and we look forward to his support for the bill’s swift passage.”

The Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act will help grow Montana’s $7.1 billion outdoor recreation economy, protecting nearly 80,000 acres in the Mission Mountains, Scapegoat and Bob Marshall Wilderness Areas along with appropriate forest management. It will also establish two outdoor recreation areas north of Ovando, providing new winter motorized access and preserving mountain biking opportunities.

Senator Tester first introduced the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act at the request of the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Project with the support of the local timber industry last session and again in April 2021.

The MCV Education Fund is a proud member of the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Project.
